We are looking for drag artists who can read in Mandarin Chinese or speak ASL to join our group of children’s storytellers. We are also looking for drag kings (no Chinese or ASL required!). Currently all programs are presented virtually on Instagram Live, Zoom, or pre-recorded video.
Drag storytellers are paid at the following rates per 45-minute program:
Storytime in Mandarin Chinese: $175
Storytime in ASL: $175
Storytime in English: $150
Drag storytellers present storytime to children in drag. This includes reading picture books, singing songs, and doing craft activities with children of all ages in libraries, schools, and other community spaces in all five boroughs of the city. As of January 2021, all of our programs are presented virtually on Instagram Live, Zoom, and pre-recorded video. See examples of our virtual programs here.
If you are interested, please reach out to Harmonica Sunbeam, Coordinator of the Storytellers Committee, at firstname.lastname@example.org, with your answers to the following questions:
Why are you interested in working with Drag Queen Story Hour NYC?
What experience do you have working with children?
Where do you live and what is your general availability for readings? (weekends, week days, mornings, afternoons, etc.)
